Tehran, Iran – The website of the Iranian Supreme Leader reported on Sunday that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held an extensive meeting with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. The meeting focused on discussing the most pressing military and economic issues facing the country at present. Moreover, the Supreme Leader’s official website stated that this meeting coincided with the start of Pezeshkian’s third year in office.
The meeting witnessed extensive discussions on the challenges and problems facing the country. Among these challenges were ways to secure the basic living needs of citizens. In addition, participants addressed the current situation related to what is termed the “Third Imposed War” and the prospects for the next phase. The two sides also discussed ongoing developments in the military field. They explored practical solutions for securing financial resources and managing expenditures in rials and foreign currencies. The meeting also covered the energy sector. Furthermore, they reviewed ways to develop external economic relations with various foreign partners.
Previous meetings amid statements about the difficulty of communication
It is worth noting that this is not the first time Pezeshkian has met with the new Supreme Leader. Last May, the Iranian president revealed a meeting he had with Mojtaba Khamenei that lasted approximately two and a half hours. During the meeting, he praised what he described as the Supreme Leader’s “humility and sincere approach.” However, opposition news outlets, such as Iran International, circulated unconfirmed reports claiming that one of the earlier meetings took place under mysterious circumstances. These reports alleged that Pezeshkian was taken to an undisclosed location. He sat in a car with tinted windows with a person presented as the Supreme Leader, whose face he did not see. These accounts were categorically denied by state media.
Security reasons and the conditions of war hinder field communication.
These developments come just days after Pezeshkian’s remarks in a televised interview. In the interview, he confirmed that direct, on-the-ground communication with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has become “extremely difficult at the moment.” According to informed sources, this difficulty is attributed to heightened security measures and the exceptional circumstances of the war. This coincides with conflicting media reports about the new Supreme Leader’s prolonged absences from public view for security and health reasons.
