Al-Mukha, Yemen – Yemeni sources reported on Sunday that the Houthi group targeted the port of Al-Mukha, west of Taiz governorate. This marks a new escalation targeting a vital facility on Yemen’s western coast. Abdulmalik Al-Sharabi, the director of the port of Al-Mukha, stated that the Houthi attack targeted civilian facilities within the port. Additionally, according to a breaking news report published by Al-Arabiya TV, information regarding the nature of the damage caused by the attack is still emerging.
The attack comes amid a continuing escalation on Yemen’s western coast. Tensions are rising in the Red Sea and around the port of Mocha following Houthi attacks on commercial vessels. Earlier this week, the Houthis targeted the Indian cargo ship MSV FAIZE NOORE OLIYA with an explosives-laden boat. It was sailing in the Red Sea when the attack occurred, causing it to sink, according to Yemeni authorities.
The past few days have also seen Yemeni warnings about the repercussions of Houthi attacks on shipping, ports, and civilian infrastructure. This comes amid continued tensions in the Red Sea. Meanwhile, initial reports regarding the extent of the damage and casualties at the port of Mocha are still being verified.
