Madrid, Spain – Real Madrid has begun taking steps to secure the future of its Belgian goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois. This comes as part of its plan to retain the team’s key players for the coming years.
According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Real Madrid’s management is considering opening negotiations with Courtois to extend his contract. This comes after finalizing the contract renewals of Aurélien Tchouaméni and Vinicius Junior.
Journalist Jose Felix Diaz, who is close to Real Madrid, reported that Courtois has become the next player on the club’s list to renew his contract. This is in light of the administration’s desire to avoid any ambiguity surrounding its future.
It is worth noting that the current Belgian goalkeeper’s contract expires in the summer of 2027. This is what prompted Real Madrid officials to start moving early to ensure his continuation with the team.
Courtois, 34, has been a key player for Real Madrid since joining the team from Chelsea in the summer of 2018.
Courtois played 45 games for Real Madrid in all competitions last season, during which he conceded 43 goals.
