Cairo, Egypt – The Egyptian national team has been ranked among the most populous countries participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup,
according to a ranking published by the British network GiveMeSport. Egypt came in sixth place among the teams that qualified for the finals.
The report explained that only six of the teams participating in the current World Cup have populations exceeding 100 million.
Therefore, this places Egypt among a select group of countries with significant populations in the tournament.
Egypt among the major participants
Egypt came in sixth place on the list alongside the Democratic Republic of the Congo,
with an estimated population of about 116 million people.
Egypt and Congo outperformed a large number of countries participating in the tournament.
This classification reflects the large demographic size of Egypt compared to most of the qualified teams.
It also highlights the broad fan base that Egyptian football enjoys at the local and international levels.
American dominance and strong presence
The United States topped the list of participating countries in terms of population,
with approximately 343 million inhabitants. The US benefited from being one of the host nations.
Brazil ranked among the top countries with an estimated population of 213 million.
Mexico also ranked highly with a population of nearly 133 million.
Both countries thus confirm their significant presence both on and off the field.
Japan came in fourth with a population of approximately 124 million, despite its limited geographical area and mountainous terrain.
Classification implications
Observers believe that Egypt presence among the most populous countries
participating in the World Cup reflects the immense popularity of football within the country.
It also reflects the strong public support enjoyed by the national team.
This ranking comes at a time when Egyptian fans are eagerly anticipating a strong showing from the Pharaohs at the 2026 World Cup,
especially after their positive start with a draw against Belgium in the first round, which boosted their hopes of qualifying for the next stage.
