Islamabad, Pakistan – The Pakistani army announced today, Friday, the killing of ten terrorist elements in separate armed clashes that took place yesterday, Thursday, in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, located in the northwest of the country. These operations come within the framework of ongoing operations to combat terrorism and clear the border areas of militant remnants.

Details of the clashes and the thwarting of the attack in South Waziristan

According to the official statement issued by the Pakistani military, the targeted combatants belonged to the banned Pakistani Taliban. The field details of the operation included the following:

The first confrontation: A terrorist group attempted a surprise attack targeting security forces checkpoints in the Azam Warsak area of South Waziristan. The armed forces successfully thwarted the attempt, and a precise exchange of fire resulted in the deaths of eight militants.

The second confrontation occurred in the Deir area, where security forces neutralized and killed two more militants during direct clashes. The army confirmed that large quantities of weapons, ammunition, and explosives were seized from the slain militants. It also indicated their involvement in several previous terrorist attacks in the area. Furthermore, the army emphasized that clearing and combing operations are ongoing to pursue any remaining militants. It affirmed the continuation of comprehensive campaigns to eradicate the threat of foreign-funded terrorism until it is completely eliminated.

The wave of violence escalated in 2026

These intensified security operations come at a time of heightened security tensions across the country. The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICS), a prominent Islamabad-based think tank, noted that violence related to terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism operations escalated sharply during July. July was ranked as the deadliest month of 2026, with 112 security personnel among the 205 people killed nationwide in terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism clashes.
