Washington, USA – The FIFA Referees Committee announced the appointment of Egyptian international referee Mahmoud Ashour to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) team for the Brazil vs. Haiti match, scheduled to be held as part of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, in a further confirmation of the great confidence that Egyptian referees enjoy on the international stage.
The full refereeing team for the match
The match will be officiated by Spanish referee Alejandro Jose Hernandez as the main referee, while his compatriot Carlos del Cerro Grande will be in charge of the video technology, assisted by Willy Delagode and Egyptian referee Mahmoud Ashour inside the VAR room.
Match date and venue
The match between Brazil and Haiti is scheduled to take place in the early hours of Friday, June 20, at Philadelphia Stadium in the United States, as part of the second round of Group C matches in the tournament.
Ashour’s third appearance in the World Cup
This appointment marks Mahmoud Ashour’s third appearance at the 2026 World Cup, having previously participated in the match between South Korea and the Czech Republic, and also served on the video assistant referee (VAR) team in the Austria-Jordan match, thus continuing his notable presence in one of the world’s biggest football tournaments.
