Tehran, Iran – Official statements have revealed exceptional arrangements regarding the Iranian national team’s stay during its participation in the 2026 World Cup. The team will not be allowed to remain in the United States except on the days of its matches in the tournament.
The Iranian national team is in Group G alongside Egypt, Belgium, and New Zealand. The upcoming World Cup will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Abolfazl Pasandideh, Iran’s ambassador to Mexico, said the national team delegation would enter the United States on the morning of the match and would depart immediately afterward. He also stated that the team would be based in Mexico for the duration of the tournament.
For her part, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed her country’s welcome to host the Iranian national team. She indicated that there were no obstacles to the team staying in Mexico during the World Cup.
She added: “The United States does not want the Iranian national team to remain on its territory between matches, so it was inquired whether the team could stay in Mexico, and we agreed to that without any problem”.
Based on these arrangements, the Iranian national team moved its training camp from Tucson, Arizona, USA, to Mexico. Mexico will be its official base during the tournament.
Iran’s national team begins its World Cup campaign against New Zealand in Los Angeles on June 15. They will then face Belgium in the same city. The group stage concludes with a match against Egypt in Seattle, as part of Group G.
