Cairo, Egypt – Al Ahly achieved a resounding victory over their traditional rival Zamalek with a score of 3-0, in the 132nd Egyptian Premier League summit, restoring the “Red Giant’s” prestige and igniting the competition for the title.
The match started at a fast pace, with Zamalek threatening Al-Ahly’s goal early on, but the response from the home team was decisive, as they gradually imposed their control over the course of the game.
Al Ahly opened the scoring in the 18th minute, after Taher Mohamed Taher sent a perfect cross, which Bencharki met with a powerful header that nestled in the net of goalkeeper Mahdi Suleiman, announcing Al Ahly’s lead.
Al Ahly did not stop there, but quickly strengthened their lead in the 31st minute, after Bencharki led a distinguished attack and passed a wonderful ball to Hussein El Shahat, who put it into the net with a wonderful technical touch, making the score 2-0.
In the second half, Zamalek tried to get back into the game, and had a chance to reduce the deficit from a penalty kick in the 55th minute, but Mostafa Shobeir made a brilliant save to maintain his team’s lead.
Al Ahly responded decisively, adding the third goal in the 65th minute after a remarkable team attack, which Bencherki finished with a powerful ground shot into the net, confirming his team’s complete superiority.
Despite Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet missing a penalty kick later, this did not affect the result of the match, which ended with a clean 3-0 victory for Al-Ahly.
With this victory, Al-Ahly raised its tally to 47 points in third place in the championship group standings, igniting the competition with Zamalek and Pyramids, and confirming its strong return at a crucial time of the season.
