Cairo, Egypt – The Cairo Criminal Court, convened in New Cairo, will issue its verdict today, Wednesday, in the case against producer and media personality Sarah Khalifa. She is accused of detaining, assaulting, and filming her driver. This comes after the conclusion of the hearings and the court’s decision to reserve judgment. The court had previously set August 5, 2026, as the date for the verdict. This followed the completion of the case proceedings. These included hearing the defendant’s arguments and discussing the presented evidence.
Accusations of detention and assault
The case involves accusations against Sarah Khalifa and others regarding the unlawful detention and assault of a driver inside a residence. Additional charges include indecent assault, filming, and threats, according to court documents circulated in the media. The defendant’s lawyer previously argued that the court lacked territorial jurisdiction. He requested that the case be transferred to the North Giza Prosecutor’s Office, claiming that the incident occurred in the Agouza district.
The drug case is separate.
Today’s hearing coincides with ongoing attention to another separate case. In this case, Sarah Khalifa and 27 other defendants face charges related to forming a criminal organization and importing materials used in the manufacture of narcotics with the intent to traffic them. They also face charges of possessing and carrying unlicensed weapons and ammunition.
According to the investigating authorities, the total amount of narcotics and raw materials used in their manufacture seized exceeded 750 kilograms. The referral decision was based on the testimonies of 20 witnesses and technical and digital evidence. During its arguments in the drug case, the Public Prosecution requested the maximum penalty for the defendants, according to press reports. This legal proceeding is separate from the case concerning the driver’s detention. The verdict in that case is scheduled for today.
