Manila, Philippines – Philippine authorities have raised the alert level as Typhoon Bavi approaches the country. This comes amid warnings of strong winds and heavy rain that could cause flash floods and landslides in several areas in the coming hours.
The Philippine weather bureau confirmed that the typhoon continues to move across the northwestern Pacific Ocean. Authorities are monitoring its path and intensity around the clock, anticipating any changes that might affect the northern and eastern parts of the country.
Authorities indicated that the expected impacts include heavy rainfall, strong winds, and high waves. This could disrupt maritime traffic and lead to the cancellation of some flights. Additionally, there is an increased risk of flooding and landslides, particularly in mountainous and low-lying areas.
The government has raised the readiness level of civil defense agencies and rescue and emergency teams, and urged residents, especially those in coastal and flood-prone areas, to adhere to official instructions. Furthermore, it advised them to monitor weather forecasts and be prepared to carry out any necessary precautionary evacuations.
The Philippines experiences several tropical cyclones annually during the rainy season. For this reason, authorities strengthen preparedness and rapid response measures to minimize human and material losses.
