Caracas, Venezuela – The death toll from the two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen to 920, with more than 3,000 injured. Rescue and relief teams continue searching for survivors under the rubble in the worst-hit areas.
Venezuelan authorities announced that civil defense teams, the army, and volunteers are working around the clock to reach those trapped. However, significant challenges remain due to collapsed buildings and damage to roads and communication networks, complicating rescue efforts in several affected cities and towns.
Authorities explained that thousands of families were forced to leave their homes after they sustained severe damage or collapsed completely. Temporary shelters have been set up to receive those affected and provide basic necessities such as food, water, and medical care.
The government announced the continuation of the state of emergency in the affected areas. It confirmed the intensification of debris removal operations and the restoration of vital services. International humanitarian aid has begun arriving in the country to support relief efforts, providing medical supplies, tents, and rescue equipment.
Officials are continuing to assess the extent of the human and material losses, with the death toll expected to rise in the coming hours as search operations continue for those missing under the collapsed buildings.
