  • Legal Accountability: Between “Digital Tools” and Developers
  • Risks of Psychological Isolation and Complex Cybercrimes

Washington – The rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence technologies has reopened a broad legal and ethical debate regarding the limits of smart systems’ responsibility. This global controversy follows an increase in reports linking certain AI applications to incidents of fraud, suicide, and serious psychological and behavioral effects on users.

Questions are mounting within legal and technical circles about whether AI could eventually become a primary party in criminal investigations. This concern stems from the ability of some systems to provide advice or content that directly influences users’ decisions and their psychological and social behavior.

Legal Accountability: Between “Digital Tools” and Developers

Legal experts point out that current laws still classify AI as a mere digital tool lacking independent will. Consequently, accountability typically falls on the owning companies, developers, or entities that misuse these technologies. However, technology ethics specialists argue that the complexity of modern algorithms and their capacity for self-learning and variable decision-making may necessitate a re-evaluation of traditional laws.

Risks of Psychological Isolation and Complex Cybercrimes

The controversy escalated following international cases involving advanced AI chatbots that simulate human interaction. Reports have highlighted individuals suffering from psychological isolation or emotional distress due to excessive interaction with these systems. Furthermore, technical reports warn that AI could be exploited to execute highly complex cybercrimes, including:

  • Fraud and Deepfake technology.
  • Fraud and Deepfake technology.

The world is currently at a turning point in the relationship between humans and machines. Governments face unprecedented challenges in ensuring that legal and ethical frameworks keep pace with this rapid development before the technology transforms into an uncontrollable crisis.
