Kyiv, Ukraine – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the “deep precision strikes” carried out by Ukrainian forces inside Russian territory have achieved tangible results on the ground. Zelenskyy affirmed that these targeted military operations are being conducted “perfectly” and according to plan. This is intended to pressure Moscow and push it toward accepting a path to peace and ending the ongoing war between the two countries.
In an official post on his Twitter account (formerly known as “X”) on Wednesday, the Ukrainian president added: “Our long-range military strikes, carried out by Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) troops, unmanned systems forces, special operations forces, defense intelligence, and border guards, have achieved very good results.”
Zelensky specifically mentioned the targeting of “important and strategic facilities deep inside Russia” last night. This included the vital St. Petersburg oil terminal. Additionally, there was shelling of “purely military targets at the Kronstadt naval base.” He also stated that among the other targets struck by Ukrainian shelling was a factory specializing in the production of Russian weapons. This factory is located in the Tambov region, approximately 600 kilometers from the front lines.
These rapid developments on the ground come at a time when, over the past two days, the intensity of the exchange of military strikes between Moscow and Kyiv has escalated to unprecedented levels. Both sides have focused on targeting vital energy facilities and transportation networks. Furthermore, they have deliberately struck deep within each other’s strategic depths to inflict maximum operational damage.
Amid these clashes, the Ukrainian Air Force announced on Tuesday that Russian forces had launched a large-scale attack overnight, involving 656 drones and 73 missiles targeting various Ukrainian regions. This announcement came shortly after loud explosions rocked the capital, Kyiv, on Wednesday morning.
In response, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that its air defenses had repelled the counterattacks. It also announced that it had shot down 354 Ukrainian drones overnight over various Russian regions. Meanwhile, the governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, reported that defenses had successfully downed 50 drones in his region alone. This comes amidst a continued state of high military alert on both sides of the border.
