Moscow, Russia – Russian Presidential Aide for International Affairs Yuri Ushakov affirmed that a possible trilateral meeting between the leaders of Russia, China and the United States, Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and Donald Trump, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China would be extremely beneficial for the international community.
In an interview with the newspaper Vesti, Ushakov indicated that the relevant leaders intend to attend the upcoming summit. He also explained that the Russian side will strive to arrange separate bilateral meetings, including one between President Putin and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping. Furthermore, a bilateral meeting with US President Trump is possible, should circumstances and scheduling permit.
The Russian official noted that the content and outcome of any potential bilateral meeting between Putin and Trump would depend directly on the duration of the talks. He also questioned whether the meeting would last only a few minutes or an hour and a half, depending on the summit’s schedule. Regarding the possibility of an expanded trilateral summit, Ushakov explained that this decision rests primarily with the host countries. He added that if the host country manages to organize such a meeting and completes the necessary diplomatic preparations, it would certainly be a positive and beneficial step.
The 33rd Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Forum is scheduled to take place from November 18-19, 2026, in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, People’s Republic of China. Leaders from 21 member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation will participate at a high level.
