Tehran, Iran – Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, vowed revenge for the assassination of his father, former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, asserting that retaliation against those he called “the killers” was inevitable.
He also emphasized that its execution would not be contingent on his presence or the presence of other Iranian officials.
These statements come amid escalating military and political tensions between Tehran and Washington.
Confirmation of the inevitability of revenge
Mojtaba Khamenei said that “free people from around the world will soon play their part in the mission of revenge.”
He added that “revenge does not depend on my presence or the presence of other officials, and it will inevitably be achieved.”
These statements are among the strongest positions taken by the new Iranian Supreme Leader since assuming office.
Meanwhile, the region is witnessing a continuous escalation following the recent US strikes inside Iran.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard had previously vowed to retaliate for the killing of Ali Khamenei
and several other Iranian leaders in the US and Israeli airstrikes that targeted Iran on February 28.
The Revolutionary Guard affirmed that the response would come at the appropriate time and place.
Intelligence reports on Trump
Khamenei’s statements coincided with American media reports that spoke of intelligence information provided
by Israel to the United States regarding an alleged Iranian plan to target US President Donald Trump.
Reports published by CNN and the Wall Street Journal stated that some American officials believed
that this information may be aimed at pushing Washington towards further military escalation with Tehran.
This comes in light of the escalating tension between the two sides.
Division within the US administration
In contrast, The New York Times, citing informed sources,
reported that US policymakers do not believe there is a current Iranian plan to assassinate Trump,
noting that Tehran understands any such attempt would be met with a massive US response.
These developments come as the political and military confrontation between Iran and the United States continues.
At the same time, international concerns are growing about the escalation
and its repercussions on the security and stability of the region.
