Kyiv, Ukraine – The Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament affirmed that completing his country’s accession process to the European Union requires constitutional and legislative amendments to align with European standards. He also noted that Kyiv continues to implement a broad package of reforms necessary to meet membership requirements.
He explained that the accession process is not limited to economic or political reforms. It also includes harmonizing the constitution and national laws with European legislation, thereby strengthening institutional independence, the rule of law, and establishing principles of good governance.
He added that the Ukrainian parliament is working in coordination with the government and European partners to prepare the necessary legislation. He emphasized that these steps are part of Ukraine’s commitments within the framework of its EU accession negotiations.
He noted that his country views EU membership as a strategic choice that will enhance political and economic stability and open up broader prospects for cooperation with member states, despite the challenges Ukraine faces under the current circumstances.
Ukraine continues to implement a comprehensive reform program in parallel with the accession negotiations. This is part of its efforts to achieve full EU membership, with European support for the ongoing process of convergence and institutional reform.
