Washington, Voice of the Emirates – In remarks reflecting escalating regional tensions, US President Donald Trump set strict parameters for dealing with the Iranian regime. He also warned that crossing a certain “red line” would immediately lead to a resumption of the US offensive military campaign.
Presidential warning from “Fox News”
In a highly anticipated interview with Fox News, scheduled to air in full on Saturday at 9 p.m. ET, Trump emphasized that any agreement not in the best interests of the United States would be unacceptable.
“Ultimately, the red line is an agreement that is not in our favor,” Trump said. “I’m moving forward with things, and we’ll see what happens.”
The “Upper Hand” in the Balance of Power
Trump asserted that the U.S. administration currently holds the “upper hand” in this confrontation. He explained, “They are very smart negotiators, but their depleted military gives us leverage to dictate our terms, chief among them being the complete prevention of Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.”
The president reiterated the necessity of destroying Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium. “We have the upper hand because we defeated them militarily,” he said.
Political calculations and the burden of decision
Regarding the political repercussions of this crisis and its impact on the midterm congressional elections, Trump commented: “You have a very short window of opportunity to do anything with regard to war. But I don’t look at that window of opportunity. I look at it as if I have to do the right thing.”
Mysterious diplomatic negotiations
These statements come at a sensitive time, as US Vice President J.D. Vance revealed on Thursday evening that “significant progress” had been made in ongoing negotiations regarding a “memorandum of understanding” aimed at extending the ceasefire for 60 days and ensuring the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
However, Vance indicated to reporters that there was still uncertainty about when the president would sign the agreement, or even if it would happen at all.
Field military operations
On the ground, recent days have witnessed a series of clashes, including an Iranian missile attack targeting Kuwait on Thursday morning.
In a show of force, Vice President Vance, speaking at the Air Force Academy graduation ceremony in Colorado, praised the performance of the forces in Operations Epic Rage and Midnight Hammer against Iran.
Vance stated, “When President Trump says Iran will never have a nuclear weapon, the U.S. Air Force lives up to that promise.” He highlighted the successful rescue of an American pilot from within Iranian territory, asserting that the United States had achieved military feats the world considered impossible.
