Washington, DC – US Vice President J.D. Vance revealed that Israel had exerted pressure on the US administration recently to continue military operations and avoid a swift end to the war. His remarks shed light on some of the discussions between the two allies regarding conflict management.
Vance explained that some Israeli officials believed military operations should continue to achieve their security objectives. Conversely, there were voices within the US administration advocating for de-escalation and preventing a wider confrontation, which could threaten regional stability and lead to broader international repercussions.
The US Vice President indicated that Washington made its decisions based on what it deemed appropriate for American interests, emphasizing that the US administration would not allow any external party to dictate its foreign policy, despite the strength of the strategic relationship with Israel.
He added that the United States had conducted intensive contacts with various parties in recent times to prevent the situation from escalating into a full-blown regional war. At the same time, diplomatic efforts continued to de-escalate tensions and create conditions conducive to reaching political solutions.
Vance’s remarks come at a time when the region is witnessing accelerated diplomatic activity and consultations between the United States and its regional and international partners to contain the tensions. This is occurring amidst ongoing debate about the future of the war and the course of international efforts to end the conflict.
