Alexandria, Egypt – During the opening session of the General Conference of Engineers in Alexandria, the head of the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate, Mohamed Abdel Ghani, announced the outlines of the syndicate’s ambitious strategy for the period 2026-2030. The strategy focuses on achieving a qualitative leap in institutional performance and maximizing the utilization of the syndicate’s assets. Furthermore, the strategy includes a complete digital transformation by the end of this year.
Ambitious targets and record numbers
Abdul Ghani revealed the strategy’s objectives, which include:
Increased revenues: The union fund’s revenues were increased by 30%, and the pension fund’s revenues were increased by 40%.
Digital transformation: Achieving 100% automation of union services.
Human development and construction: Training 30,000 engineers, building 5,000 housing units, and serving 200,000 beneficiaries.
Addressing the challenges of unemployment and the labor market
In addressing the unemployment rate among engineers, which has reached 40% in Upper Egypt governorates, the head of the Engineers Syndicate emphasized the syndicate’s rejection of engineers working on a daily wage basis (a “serge”), describing this as a top priority. He also announced the launch of the largest platform for hiring engineers within months. Furthermore, a “Professional Engineering Academy” will be established to bridge the gap between academic education and market needs. The head of the syndicate added that coordination has been established with the Ministry of Higher Education to reduce the number of students admitted to engineering colleges annually from 40,000 to 20,000. This measure aims to ensure the quality of graduates and their alignment with market demands.
Governance and service development
Abdel Ghani stressed the need to amend the current syndicate law, emphasizing the adoption of a professional investment management system based on efficiency and transparency. He also revealed plans to establish an integrated medical network and develop engineers’ clubs. Furthermore, the professional practice regulations will be activated, and engineers will be classified into (practice, specialist, consultant).
The head of the syndicate concluded his speech by announcing the launch of the “Engineering Excellence Award” and “Engineer’s Day” as steps to recognize outstanding examples. He emphasized that the syndicate is restructuring its administrative apparatus to be more capable of providing services befitting Egyptian engineers. This comes amidst warnings about the encroachment of foreign firms at the expense of local ones.
