Oslo, Norway – Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has responded to speculation linking him with a move to Major League Soccer (MLS). This comes amid the growing popularity he gained during his participation in the 2026 World Cup.
Haaland delivered outstanding performances throughout the tournament, scoring seven goals. Norway’s run then came to an end in the quarter-finals, with a 2-1 defeat to England after extra time.
TalkSPORT reported that the Norwegian striker’s impressive performance in the United States, along with the popularity he gained, has reopened speculation about a future move to the American league.
However, Haaland had previously ruled out this move, saying: “I never thought about it. I’m still at the beginning of my career, and players usually move to the American league at later stages of their careers, while I’ve just started my journey with Manchester City.”
He also denied that the lifestyle in the United States was a motivation for considering this experience, adding: “I’m a football player, I don’t care about these things, and I have great people around me.”
The report noted that Haaland not only stole the show on the pitch, but also garnered significant attention on social media. He posted a humorous picture with the character Shrek, and even appeared disguised as a tourist in the streets of New York. Furthermore, he donned a cowboy hat while in Texas, instead of his famous Viking helmet.
He explained that these appearances contributed to Haaland’s number of followers on the “Instagram” platform increasing from 40 million to 60 million followers during the tournament.
talkSPORT concluded its report by stating that a move to the MLS for Haaland doesn’t seem likely at the moment. This is due to his young age and continued excellent form with Manchester City. However, the door remains open for such a move at a later stage in his career.
