Tehran, Iran – Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, threatened that his country would respond decisively to any US or Israeli attacks. Speaking on the “X” platform, Rezaei asserted that one of the strategic options available should war resume is “raising uranium enrichment to 90 percent.” This level is sufficient to produce a nuclear weapon.
White House Situation Room
Meanwhile, at the White House, President Donald Trump met again with his national security team on Monday. CNN correspondent Alina Taryn reported that the meeting focused on exploring “all available options” for dealing with Iran’s hardening stance. This comes amid reports that the option of preemptive strikes has resurfaced.
Trump didn’t hesitate to use harsh language regarding the response Washington received through the Pakistani mediator, describing the Iranian proposal for a framework for peace talks as “garbage” and “incredibly weak.”
“After reading this load of rubbish they sent me, I can only say it’s the weakest response we’ve ever received,” Trump said sharply. He added dismissively, “I haven’t even finished reading it, and I’m not going to waste my time on it.”
Mystery before the Beijing trip
Despite the threatening tone, Trump preferred to maintain a state of “strategic ambiguity” regarding the timing and method of a response. News Nation correspondent Kelly Meyer reported that Trump refused to provide any details about a potential military strike before his upcoming trip to China. In a brief phone call with Meyer, he stated definitively, “Obviously, I’m not going to talk to you about that.”
These developments have jeopardized the ceasefire agreement. Trump has publicly stated that the chances of the truce holding are “very slim.” This opens the door to a range of possibilities that could plunge the entire region into chaos.
