Kuwait – The State of Kuwait expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the treacherous attack targeting the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon.

The attack resulted in the death of a soldier from the French battalion and injuries to three others.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in an official statement carried by Al Jazeera,

affirmed that this attack represents a dangerous escalation that necessitates a firm international response.

A blatant violation of international law

The ministry stressed in its statement that targeting international forces operating

under the UN flag constitutes a “flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.”

It also considered it a blatant breach of diplomatic conventions guaranteeing the protection of UN missions in conflict zones.

Kuwait affirmed its complete rejection of the culture of impunity.

It indicated that targeting UN peacekeepers aims to undermine the fragile peace efforts in the region.

Heartfelt condolences and a demand for accountability

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended its deepest condolences to the Republic of France,

its leadership, government, and people, and to the families of the victims.

It also expressed its wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured.

The statement read: “The Ministry emphasizes the necessity of holding those responsible

for this heinous attack accountable and ensuring they are brought to justice to receive their just punishment,

in order to prevent the recurrence of such criminal acts that threaten the security and stability of the region.”

Steadfast support for stabilization efforts

The Kuwaiti statement did not merely condemn the UNIFIL mission; Kuwait reiterated its full and unconditional support for the mission.

It noted that the role played by these forces is vital and crucial in maintaining calm in southern Lebanon.

It also emphasized that this role ensures the situation does not escalate into a full-blown confrontation.

Providing protection for peacekeepers

In closing, Kuwait called on the international community to provide the necessary protection for peacekeepers

and create the conditions conducive to their carrying out their noble mission.Kuwait also affirmed its solidarity

with Lebanon in its efforts to extend its sovereignty and strengthen security throughout its territory.

It stressed that the stability of Lebanon is a cornerstone of stability for the entire Middle East.

Therefore, this requires concerted international efforts to halt all forms of escalation and the systematic targeting of forces striving for peace.
