Moscow, Russia – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed the need to address key regional issues, particularly the Palestinian question and the Syrian crisis, amidst the growing international focus on developments in the Strait of Hormuz.
In official remarks, Lavrov explained that the preoccupation with the escalation in the Gulf region should not overshadow other unresolved issues with profound humanitarian and political repercussions. He emphasized the importance of a balanced approach to the various crises in the Middle East.
He noted that the Palestinian issue remains at the heart of the conflict in the region. He affirmed that any efforts to achieve stability will be incomplete without a just and comprehensive resolution to this issue. This resolution must meet the aspirations of the Palestinian people and ensure security for all.
In the same vein, he stressed that the Syrian crisis still requires sustainable political solutions, far removed from any attempts to freeze it or treat it as a secondary issue. He also affirmed his country’s support for diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict.
He added that the multitude of hotspots in the region necessitates that the international community avoid selective approaches to addressing crises. He also called for addressing the root causes of conflicts instead of merely managing their consequences.
Observers believe that Lavrov’s statements reflect a Russian tendency to redirect international attention as events in the Gulf unfold rapidly, potentially marginalizing other equally important issues that impact regional stability.
