Brussels, Belgium – Bloomberg News, citing informed sources, reported a strategic shift in NATO priorities in Turkey, with the focus of aerial surveillance operations moving from Russian activity to Iranian movements.
This comes amid increasing likelihood of US military action against Tehran.
The report, published on Tuesday, March 25, stated that the alliance has begun intensifying
its use of Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft based at Konya Air Base in central Anatolia.
While these aircraft are regularly used to monitor both Russia and Iran, sources confirmed
a significant recent increase in the number of flights dedicated to monitoring Iranian airspace.
Strike and military pressure scenarios
According to sources who requested anonymity, these moves come amid Turkish preparations for a possible US attack on the Islamic Republic.
The attack’s objectives, according to Washington, are to use the threat of force to compel Tehran
to make concessions on contentious issues, most notably limiting its nuclear program.
Sources warned that if the Iranian government does not back down, the scope of potential military operations could expand to include broader targets.
Field movements: F-22s arrive in the region
:Coinciding with the Bloomberg report, Israeli media revealed a significant US military move
the transfer of 12 F-22 Raptor stealth fighter jets to the Middle East.
These aircraft were previously stationed at an airbase in Britain before being ordered to the region.
These reinforcements come at a time of growing doubt about the course of diplomatic negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
As a result, this has fueled speculation that the military option is now firmly on the table.
