Beijing, China – Chinese President Xi Jinping affirmed that the reunification of the motherland represents an “irresistible general historical momentum,” reiterating his country’s commitment to Taiwan.
He stressed that the issue of reunification will remain at the forefront of China’s national priorities,
under the principle of “one country, two systems” and with unwavering resolve.
This came in a speech delivered by Xi Jinping on the occasion of the New Year, broadcast by China Media Group.
He pointed out that the ties between the people of China on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are “unbreakable blood ties.”
He stressed that the course of history and shared national identity inevitably lead towards reunification.
The Chinese president referred to what he described as the major
achievements his country had made over the past five years.
China’s modernization path
He explained that 2025 represents the culmination year of the “Fourteenth Five-Year Plan”,
Which has witnessed remarkable progress in the path of Chinese modernization,
and the Chinese economy has crossed new thresholds.
With expectations that its total size will reach approximately 140 trillion yuan during the current year.
Xi Jinping noted that China celebrated the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people’s resistance this year.
This was in opposition to Japanese aggression and in support of victory in the World War against fascism.
He emphasized that this occasion strengthened historical awareness and the spirit of national pride.
It provided an additional impetus for achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Innovation becomes the driver
The Chinese president also stressed that innovation has become the main driver of high-quality development.
He pointed to the accelerating integration of technology and industry,
and the progress in the fields of artificial intelligence,
Electronic chips, space exploration, along with achievements in the defense, energy and infrastructure industries.
Xi Jinping stressed that these successes reflect China’s ability
to meet challenges and enhance its international standing.
This comes at a time when it continues to adhere to its sovereign principles,
foremost among them the issue of Taiwan, which it considers an integral part of Chinese territory.
