Kuwait – Kuwaiti authorities announced Wednesday morning that a fire that broke out in a busy residential complex in one of the capital’s districts had been brought under complete control. The fire was caused by a direct attack on the complex by a hostile drone, amid the current regional escalation. The official Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) quoted Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Gharib, spokesperson for the Kuwait Fire Force, as saying that firefighting teams rushed to the scene early Wednesday morning. The teams professionally contained and extinguished the blaze completely. Brigadier General Al-Gharib explained that teams from the Al-Hilali and Al-Madina fire stations responded immediately upon arrival. He confirmed that there were no injuries or fatalities. The material damage was limited to a small number of properties within the targeted complex.

Kuwaiti Army: Activating air defense systems

On the military front, the Kuwaiti Army issued an official statement confirming that the country had been subjected to a large-scale military attack involving missiles and drones launched from Iranian territory. The statement indicated that Kuwaiti air defense systems were immediately placed on high alert to intercept and engage the projectiles in the air. The statement explained that the loud explosions heard in various areas and neighborhoods across the country resulted from the successful engagement and interception operations carried out by air defense units. In an initial assessment, the Kuwaiti Army reported no injuries or significant damage. The Army urged all citizens and residents to strictly adhere to the security and safety instructions issued by the relevant official authorities.

Rapid regional escalation

With this official announcement from Kuwaiti authorities, the country becomes the third Arab state to officially acknowledge dealing with a wave of missile and air attacks that same night. This follows similar events in Jordan and Bahrain. The announcement comes amidst the fallout from Iran’s declared response to previous US strikes targeting Revolutionary Guard sites in southern Iran.
