Moscow, Russia – Russia has confirmed that severing diplomatic ties with Germany is not currently on the table. This comes despite ongoing political tensions between Moscow and Berlin and escalating disagreements on a number of international issues. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko stated that his country is not currently considering ending relations with Germany. He indicated that Moscow still sees the importance of maintaining open diplomatic channels.

The Russian statements come amid a significant decline in relations between the two countries in recent years, stemming from the war in Ukraine and Germany’s support for Kyiv. This also coincides with an exchange of diplomatic measures between Moscow and Berlin. The Russian official emphasized that the continuation of diplomatic relations does not mean the absence of disagreements. He also explained that Moscow is monitoring developments and German positions and will respond accordingly. The statements indicate that Russia, despite the intensity of the political confrontation with Germany, does not wish to reach a point of complete rupture. Therefore, it is permissible to maintain a minimum level of official contact between the two sides.
