Egypt: 16 dead and 28 injured in bus crash in South Sinai

Cairo, Egypt – The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population announced Wednesday morning that 16 people were killed and 28 others injured in a preliminary toll following a tragic bus accident in South Sinai Governorate. This came amidst an intensive government and emergency response. The horrific accident occurred Wednesday morning on the vital road linking the cities of Dahab and Nuweiba. Specifically, the accident took place before the Al-Saada area, heading towards Nuweiba in South Sinai Governorate.

Upon receiving the report of the incident, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, immediately directed the activation of the central operations room to monitor the health repercussions of the situation moment by moment. As part of the rapid response, the ambulance service dispatched 20 fully equipped ambulances to the scene of the accident. This was done to deal with the number of victims, evacuate the injured, and provide necessary first aid on site before transferring them to nearby hospitals.

The Ministry’s official spokesperson, Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, explained that the initial count of victims resulted in 16 deaths at the scene, while 28 passengers sustained various injuries. He confirmed that medical teams from various specialties are continuously monitoring the health of the injured. The goal is to ensure they receive the best possible treatment.

In the same context, the Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, who also heads the Healthcare Authority, directed that the highest levels of medical care and treatment be provided to the injured, and that all necessary medical supplies and medications be made available without any shortcomings. He also emphasized the importance of continuous coordination with all relevant authorities in South Sinai Governorate. The Egyptian Ministry of Health confirmed that all medical teams are working at full capacity to respond to the incident with utmost efficiency and speed. The Ministry also extended its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to all those injured.
