Kyiv, Ukraine – Ukrainian authorities announced on Thursday that eight people were killed and 33 others injured in a large-scale Russian attack targeting the capital, Kyiv, and several surrounding areas. This marks a new escalation in the air strikes of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Authorities reported that the attack involved waves of drones and missiles, resulting in powerful explosions in several districts of the capital, as well as fires and damage to a number of buildings and infrastructure.
Emergency teams confirmed that search and rescue operations were continuing at the bombed sites. The injured were transported to hospitals for treatment, while civil defense teams worked to contain fires and clear debris. The strikes caused widespread material damage. In response, residents of the capital sought shelter after air raid sirens sounded and warnings of further airstrikes were issued.
The attack comes amid a continued military escalation between Moscow and Kyiv. This coincides with an exchange of long-range strikes and ongoing political and diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war and reaching a settlement to the conflict. Ukrainian authorities confirmed that the attack caused significant casualties and material damage. Meanwhile, relevant agencies are continuing to assess the extent of the damage caused by the strikes, amid concerns that the escalation could continue in the coming hours.
