Islamabad, Pakistan – In a significant escalation of its security campaign against militant groups, the Pakistani military’s media wing (ISPR) announced on Saturday the killing of eight terrorists in two precise intelligence operations carried out in Balochistan province on June 25 and 26. These operations are part of the state’s strategy to eradicate what it calls “India sedition,” the official term Islamabad uses to refer to groups it accuses India of supporting to destabilize the country.
Details of the clashes
The army statement explained that on June 25, security forces detected movements of a terrorist group in the Kharan district, where a “precise and skillful” operation resulted in the deaths of three militants and injuries to others. The following day (June 26), forces conducted a preemptive operation in the Mastung district targeting a cell that was planning suicide attacks. During a fierce firefight, the forces neutralized five terrorists, including a suicide bomber. Quantities of weapons, ammunition, explosive devices, and motorcycles belonging to the militants were also seized.
The military’s public relations department confirmed that clearing operations are ongoing in the area to track down any remaining elements. The department emphasized that the counterterrorism campaign will continue with full force to eliminate threats emanating from beyond the borders.
Official praise for the operations
These field successes have been widely praised by Pakistan’s political leadership. President Asif Ali Zardari commended the professionalism of the security forces and stressed the need to continue these operations until the “complete eradication” of foreign-backed terrorism.
For his part, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated his government’s commitment to combating all forms of terrorism. He delivered a firm message to armed groups, stating, “The enemies of peace in Pakistan will suffer a crushing defeat on all fronts.”
These operations come at a time of ongoing security tensions in the region. This situation places Balochistan at the heart of government efforts to assert sovereignty and prevent subversive activities that threaten the country’s stability. These efforts are underscored by official assurances that the military and intelligence services will remain on high alert to ensure national security.
