Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump announced in a message posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the United States will launch what he described as the “most severe economic action” against the Iranian regime. This comes after Tehran failed to seize the opportunity to reach a comprehensive diplomatic agreement.
Economic war and unprecedented isolation
The US president described this strategic move as an economic war and a comprehensive isolation on an unprecedented scale. He asserted that Iran’s military capabilities and the value of its national currency had been severely damaged in recent times. He also indicated that its military infrastructure had been significantly weakened as a result of the accumulated pressure.
Stern warnings and sanctions against supporting countries
Trump issued stern warnings that any country providing a means to circumvent the economic pressure on Tehran, whether through financial institutions, commercial companies, airports, or government entities, would face “very severe economic consequences.” He also stressed the need for an immediate halt to oil smuggling and barter lines. Furthermore, he emphasized the necessity of stopping money transfers, currency exchange operations, ship registrations, and the use of shell companies.
Economic Reckoning Day and the UAE’s Position
Trump called on Washington’s allies to join US efforts to isolate the Islamic Republic. He described these measures as an “economic day of reckoning” that would cripple the Iranian regime’s ability to spread regional tensions. He also reiterated that Tehran would never acquire a nuclear weapon. In a related development, the United Arab Emirates announced the suspension of all trade and financial transactions with Iran, a move that will further strain the already struggling Iranian economy.
