Amman, Jordan – Former Jordanian Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh revealed his country’s vision for confronting regional expansionist attempts. He explained that maintaining the strength of state institutions and the independence of its political decision-making were among the most prominent factors that helped Jordan avoid the infiltration of Iranian influence into its territory. Al-Khasawneh also clarified that Jordan adopted an approach based on protecting state institutions and preserving its monopoly on the use of force. Furthermore, he emphasized Jordan’s refusal to allow its territory to become an arena for conflicts or confrontations related to regional crises.
He noted that the Kingdom has been keen to keep its sovereign decision-making free from the influence of armed groups or external powers. He considered this policy to have contributed to maintaining the country’s stability despite the escalating tensions witnessed in the region over the past years. Al-Khasawneh also pointed out that Iran has succeeded in strengthening its influence within a number of countries in the region, exploiting political and security crises. It has also benefited from internal divisions. However, Jordan has taken political and security measures that have prevented a recurrence of this scenario within its borders.
He affirmed that Amman has always treated its national security as a non-negotiable matter. He also stressed the necessity of keeping decisions regarding security and weapons solely within the purview of official state institutions. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of Jordan’s adherence to international law and maintaining balanced relations with all parties. He asserted that this approach has granted the Kingdom greater capacity to address regional crises and safeguard its interests.
Al-Khasawneh addressed the growing repercussions of conflicts in the Middle East. He noted that the ongoing regional tensions necessitate that Arab states strengthen their national institutions and protect their sovereign decision-making from any attempts at influence or infiltration. Al-Khasawneh’s remarks come at a time of increasing concern about the spillover of regional conflicts into neighboring countries. At the same time, Jordan reaffirms its commitment to a policy based on protecting its national security and preventing the use of its territory or institutions to serve foreign agendas.
