Damascus, Syria – Syrian authorities have raised the level of preparedness in areas near the Euphrates River following an increase in water flow. This comes amid precautionary measures to monitor the evolving water situation and prepare for any further rise in the river’s level. The preparedness measures are concentrated in areas within the Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor governorates, as well as in agricultural lands and low-lying areas near the Euphrates. Emergency teams are continuously monitoring water levels.

These steps are part of an early warning and preparedness plan, which includes equipping the necessary machinery and mechanisms for rapid intervention in the event of any sudden developments or significant increases in water flow. Authorities confirmed that the situation remains under close monitoring. They added that these emergency measures are part of a preparedness and prevention strategy aimed at mitigating potential risks and protecting residents, facilities, and agricultural lands located near the river.

Residents and farmers have been advised to exercise caution and stay away from areas adjacent to the river, especially in places that may experience increased water velocity or sudden changes in water levels. The Euphrates River is of paramount importance to Syria, as it is a primary source of drinking water and irrigation. A vast network of dams and water infrastructure is also connected to the river, playing a vital role in providing water and energy and supporting agricultural activity. Syrian authorities continue to monitor water movement and inflows, and are prepared to take further measures should new changes occur in the river’s levels. At present, water resource management and addressing any sudden rises remain top priorities in the areas along the Euphrates.
