Cairo, Egypt – The Egyptian government announced that initial investigations into the fire that broke out on board two ships inside the port of Damietta on July 29, 2026, showed that the incident was likely caused by a drone, after the firefighting teams and competent authorities succeeded in controlling the fire and securing the site of the incident.

The government confirmed in an official statement that investigations are ongoing to uncover all the circumstances surrounding the incident, noting that no party has yet claimed responsibility.

The statement added that the relevant authorities are continuing their investigations and taking the necessary measures to safeguard the interests of the state and its national security, emphasizing that they will continue to monitor the situation until all legal and technical procedures related to the incident are completed.
