Tokyo, Japan – The Japanese Ministry of Defense announced the deployment of approximately 4,600 Self-Defense Forces personnel to Kyushu Island to participate in relief and rescue operations following a series of earthquakes that struck the region, causing widespread damage. The Japanese Defense Minister stated that the deployed forces will be responsible for searching for missing persons, evacuating residents from affected areas, providing logistical support to emergency teams, and assisting in debris removal and clearing damaged roads to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.
Japanese authorities deployed hundreds of police officers, firefighters, and rescue teams, along with helicopters and heavy equipment, to expedite search and rescue operations for those trapped, as aftershocks continued to hamper rescue efforts.
The Japanese government confirmed that all relevant agencies are working around the clock to assess the extent of the damage and provide basic necessities for those affected. Warnings of further aftershocks remain in place, and residents are urged to adhere to safety and evacuation instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
