Washington, DC – The US State Department affirmed that the United States remains open to a diplomatic solution with Iran, emphasizing that a political solution remains the preferred path for addressing outstanding issues between the two sides. This comes despite ongoing regional tensions and disagreements over Iran’s nuclear program.

The State Department explained that the administration in Washington believes diplomacy is the most effective means of achieving security and stability. It affirmed its readiness to engage in serious negotiations if Tehran demonstrates a similar willingness to abide by international agreements. Tehran must also take practical steps to de-escalate tensions.

She added that the United States will continue to coordinate with its allies and international partners to support efforts to prevent the escalation of tensions in the region. At the same time, it will maintain the pressure and take the measures it deems necessary to protect its security interests.

These statements come at a time of heightened tensions in relations between Washington and Tehran. There are also international efforts underway to revive the diplomatic track and reduce tensions. Furthermore, there are growing concerns about the repercussions of any new confrontation on the security and stability of the Middle East region.
