Authorities explained that the earthquake caused the collapse of several buildings and damaged homes and public facilities. Roads were also cut off in some areas, hindering the arrival of ambulance and rescue teams to the most affected locations in the initial hours following the disaster.
The Peruvian government deployed civil defense, fire, and medical teams to the affected areas, while the injured were transported to hospitals for treatment. Rescue operations continued, including clearing debris and searching for anyone who might be trapped under collapsed buildings.
Authorities urged residents to exercise caution and follow safety instructions, warning of the possibility of aftershocks in the coming hours and days. Meanwhile, relevant authorities continued to assess the material damage and provide humanitarian aid to those affected.
