  • Diplomatic Push and Border Arrangements

Tel Aviv, Israel – The Israeli military will begin a gradual withdrawal from “pilot zones” in southern Lebanon starting Tuesday, according to a report published Monday by the U.S. news outlet Axios citing informed officials. The move forms part of U.S.-mediated security arrangements designed to facilitate the deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces and stabilize the border region.

Phased Withdrawal and Lebanese Army Deployment

Sources indicated that the initial redeployment will cover designated areas agreed upon within the trilateral framework, transferring security responsibilities to the Lebanese army—specifically across towns such as Froun, Srifa, and Zawtar al-Gharbiya. This initial phase serves as a trial to monitor compliance, maintain security, and verify the dismantling of non-state military infrastructure.

Diplomatic Push and Border Arrangements

These field moves follow intensive diplomatic efforts led by Washington following recent multilateral talks in Rome aimed at preventing a renewal of border hostilities between Israel and Lebanon. The framework entails a reciprocal, phased reduction of Israeli forces conditional upon the verified deployment of the Lebanese army to maintain order in the designated zones.

Regional and international observers are closely monitoring official responses from all parties to clarify further timelines and execution mechanics. Success in these pilot zones is viewed as a crucial test case for restoring broader stability and preventing wider escalation along the border.
