Baghdad, Iraq – The Iraqi Security Media Cell announced the formation of a high-level committee to investigate, in coordination with the Syrian side,
following the thwarting of an attempt to smuggle weapons and missiles across the Iraqi border into Syrian territory.
This comes as part of joint efforts to enhance border security and pursue smuggling networks.

Joint investigation between Baghdad and Damascus
The Security Media Cell explained that the High Committee will conduct a joint investigation
with the relevant authorities in Syria to uncover the circumstances of the operation.
The committee will also work to identify those involved and the routes used
to smuggle weapons and missiles across the border between the two countries.
It affirmed that security coordination between Baghdad and Damascus is ongoing
to ensure the completion of the investigations and the taking of necessary legal measures against those involved.
Foiling an arms and missile smuggling operation
The committee was formed following the success of Iraqi security forces in thwarting
an attempt to smuggle weapons and missiles into Syrian territory.
This was part of ongoing operations to monitor and secure the border between the two countries.
Iraqi security forces continue to conduct intensive search
and surveillance operations to prevent smuggling and infiltration.
This comes amidst the security challenges facing the border regions.

Strengthening border security
The Security Media Cell confirmed that Iraqi authorities are continuing to work on strengthening border control measures
