Tel Aviv, Israel – The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the postponement of his planned visit to the United States, which was scheduled to begin in the coming days, following a change in the date of the funeral for the late US Senator Lindsey Graham. Netanyahu had intended to attend the funeral and also meet with US President Donald Trump in Washington.
Netanyahu’s office explained that the change in the funeral date to the end of this month necessitated the complete postponement of the visit. A new date will be set later in coordination with the American side, but no alternative date has yet been announced.
The visit was expected to be Netanyahu’s first official trip to Washington since the end of the recent military confrontation with Iran, and was anticipated to include talks with the US president on developments in the Middle East, the Iranian nuclear program, and the war in the Gaza Strip. Discussions were also expected on ways to strengthen security and military cooperation between the two countries.
The postponement of the visit comes at a time of rapid political and security developments in the region, amidst ongoing coordination between Washington and Tel Aviv on a number of regional issues. No official announcement has yet been made regarding a new date for the anticipated meeting between Trump and Netanyahu.
