Tokyo, Japan – A wild bear caused panic in a town in northern Japan after a series of home invasions. It broke into refrigerators and searched for food in 14 separate incidents over a short period.
Local authorities reported that the bear entered several homes, taking advantage of the residents’ absence or inadequate security measures. It damaged the contents of some houses, focusing particularly on refrigerators and food storage areas. No injuries were reported.
Following an increase in reports, authorities deployed specialized teams to track the bear and set traps in the areas where it was sighted. They also intensified patrols and warned residents against leaving their homes at night or leaving food in places that might attract wild animals.
Wildlife experts indicate that the decline in natural food sources in forests is driving bears closer to residential areas. This has led to a significant increase in human-wildlife encounters in Japan in recent years, prompting calls for enhanced prevention measures and greater public protection.
