UAE: Targeting navigation and using "Hormuz" as a tool for economic pressure are acts of piracy

Abu DHABI, UAE – The UAE expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the aggressive Iranian attacks, which targeted the national oil tankers “Membasa” and “Al Bahia”. After they were attacked by two mobile missiles while passing through the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz, within Omani territorial waters.

The Foreign Ministry confirmed in a statement that this aggressive Iranian attack resulted in the death of an Indian national. 8 were injured, including 4 seriously, 6 of Indian nationality and 2 of Ukrainian nationality. Expressing her sincere condolences and sympathy to the victim’s family and to the friendly people of India, she wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.

The Ministry stressed that this aggressive Iranian attack constitutes a flagrant violation of Security Council Resolution No. 2817. Who stressed freedom of navigation and rejected targeting commercial ships or disrupting international sea lanes. Stressing that targeting commercial navigation and using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for pressure or economic blackmail is considered an act of piracy. It poses a direct threat to the stability of the region and its people, and to global energy security.

The UAE stressed the need for Iran to stop these aggressive attacks, ensuring its full commitment to the cessation of all hostilities. And reopening the strait completely and unconditionally, to achieve regional security and stabilize the global economy and trade.
