Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, condemned the Iranian attack targeting two Emirati oil tankers, emphasizing that this escalation constitutes a serious violation of international laws and norms. He added that it also threatens maritime security and the stability of energy supplies in the region.
Al-Budaiwi stressed that targeting commercial vessels and civilian infrastructure is an unacceptable escalation. He called for respect for the rules of international law and for ensuring freedom of navigation in vital maritime routes, which are a major artery for global trade.
He affirmed that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) stands with the United Arab Emirates in confronting any aggression against its security and sovereignty, expressing the GCC states’ full solidarity with Abu Dhabi in all measures it takes to protect its national security and maintain the safety of maritime navigation.
The Secretary-General noted that the continuation of such attacks exacerbates regional tensions and threatens security and stability in the region. He called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and take decisive steps to deter any acts targeting commercial vessels or endangering global trade. This would contribute to maintaining the security of maritime routes and the stability of international energy markets.
