Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump announced that the United States will impose a 20% tariff on all cargo ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

He stated that this move is part of Washington’s policy to protect one of

the world’s most important shipping lanes and to ensure the safety of commercial shipping in the region.

New drawing on passing ships

Trump confirmed that the new tariff would apply to all cargo ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

He noted that the United States bears a significant responsibility

for protecting the waterway and ensuring the continued flow of global trade through it.

He explained that the decision is part of measures aimed at covering the costs of

protecting navigation and enhancing maritime security in light of escalating tensions in the region.

Protecting navigation in the Strait of Hormuz

The US president indicated that Washington would continue its role in ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

He also emphasized that the security of maritime routes is a priority for the United States

due to their strategic importance to international trade. He further stressed their importance to global energy supplies.

Trump added that the US administration believes that countries and companies benefiting

from maritime security should contribute to bearing some of the costs of this protection.

Expected economic repercussions

The announcement is expected to generate widespread reactions in economic circles and the maritime transport sector,

given that the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important shipping lanes for oil and other goods.

Investors and shipping companies are also awaiting details on how the new fee will be implemented

and will be watching closely to see how it will affect transportation costs and commodity and energy prices in the coming period.
