Tehran, Iran – The Iranian capital was gripped by tension on Saturday morning, July 11, 2026, following reports of loud explosions in the eastern districts of Tehran province. This comes amid heightened tensions following large-scale US military operations targeting Iranian sites over the past two days.
Mystery surrounds the Tehran explosions
The Fars News Agency, affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, reported that residents of the Pakdasht and Qiamadasht districts heard loud explosions on the eastern outskirts of the province. Local residents also reported hearing similar sounds in the strategically important Parchin area. As of the time of this report, no official statement has been issued clarifying the nature or precise location of these explosions. This has raised questions about whether they are related to ongoing military operations or to other causes.
Widespread US strikes against “military targets”
These developments in Tehran come after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it had carried out two rounds of intensive strikes against Iran on July 7 and 8. CENTCOM explained that the strikes were aimed at degrading Tehran’s ability to threaten international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
On July 7, US forces launched a series of attacks targeting 80 military sites, most notably destroying more than 60 small boats belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Washington asserted that these operations were a direct response to Tehran’s violation of the ceasefire agreement, specifically its attack on three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
The US military command affirms that its forces remain on “high alert and combat readiness.” They are also fully prepared to conduct additional operations if necessary. This comes amid regional concerns that this cycle of escalating tensions could lead to a loss of control in one of the world’s most vital waterways.
