Kansas City, USA – Lionel Messi, the captain of the Argentine national team, expressed his happiness at leading his country to the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup, after defeating Switzerland in a tough quarter-final match.
The Argentine team succeeded in winning the match with a score of (3-1), to continue its campaign to defend its title and set up a meeting with the English team in the semi-finals.
Messi said in post-match comments: “I am very happy with this victory. It was a very difficult match, and we knew from the beginning that we would face a strong opponent who would make things complicated”.
He added: “It was important for us to get through this stage, so that we could have a week of calm and good preparation for what awaits us in the semi-finals”.
The Tango captain continued: “We suffered again, but this team never loses faith, and we succeeded in returning to the list of the top four teams in the world”.
Argentina will face England in the World Cup semi-final next Wednesday, seeking a place in the final for the second time in a row.
Messi also continues to compete for the tournament’s top scorer title, having raised his tally to 8 goals, sharing the lead with Frenchman Kylian Mbappe.
