Beirut, Lebanon – Border areas in southern Lebanon witnessed a new military escalation on Thursday. This followed Israeli military operations involving demolition and explosions in the towns of Taybeh and Khiam, resulting in loud blasts. The explosions were heard in several neighboring villages.
Lebanese sources reported that Israeli forces carried out the demolition operations targeting locations within the two towns. This coincided with artillery shelling that struck the outskirts of several areas in the Marjeyoun district. Simultaneously, there was intensive overflight by drones and reconnaissance aircraft over the eastern sector of southern Lebanon.
The explosions sparked tension among residents, amid the ongoing escalation of violence along the Lebanese-Israeli border. Shelling and bombings occur almost daily, raising fears of a wider conflict.
This escalation comes as international and regional efforts continue to contain the tension and prevent the situation from spiraling into a broader confrontation. In this context, there are repeated calls for a cessation of hostilities and adherence to international resolutions that guarantee regional stability and the protection of civilians.
