Ankara, Turkey – NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte affirmed that the alliance continues to coordinate with the Gulf states.
He expressed NATO’s readiness to provide assistance should a decision be made by member states.
This comes amidst rapidly evolving security developments in the region.
Coordination with the Gulf and a Turkish role in de-escalation
Rutte explained that NATO is closely monitoring regional developments,
noting ongoing coordination with the Gulf states on shared security issues.
He also affirmed that Turkey has the capacity to contribute to preventing escalation in the region,
given its location, regional role, and relationships with various parties.
The Secretary General emphasized that any NATO action in the region remains contingent upon the decisions of member states.
He reiterated the Alliance’s readiness to support efforts to maintain security and stability whenever such efforts are agreed upon.
Pressure on Russia and support for Ukraine
On the Ukrainian issue, Rutte said the Russian economy is under increasing
pressure as a result of sanctions and developments related to the war.
He also noted that Ukraine has successfully carried out strikes deep inside Russia,
demonstrating its continued military capabilities in the face of Russian operations.
He affirmed that the alliance continues to support Ukraine as part of its commitment to strengthening European security.
He explained that it is also committed to maintaining stability in the face of ongoing security challenges.
Emphasis on the cohesion of the alliance
Rutte stressed that US President Donald Trump’s commitment to NATO is “full and without doubts.”
He stressed that the alliance’s unity and cohesion represent
an essential element in confronting global security challenges.
He added that Europe is also required to increase refining capacities to ensure defense readiness.
He considered that strengthening industrial and logistical capabilities has
become an integral part of the collective security and defense system.
This comes in light of the current international changes.
