Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Representatives from seven Arab countries affirmed the importance of strengthening close cooperation between radio and television bodies of member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This effort aims to contribute effectively to raising awareness of common issues, supporting purposeful media messaging, and promoting values of moderation, tolerance, and development across the region.
Developing Joint Media Work Mechanisms
This came during the meetings of the Islamic Broadcasting Union (IBU), where participants stressed the necessity of developing joint media work mechanisms in the coming phase. The attendees also emphasized the importance of launching new initiatives and programs that reflect issues of concern to the peoples of the Islamic world, with a focus on expanding areas for exchanging content and technical and media expertise among media institutions in member states.
Media as a Pillar to Combat Disinformation
The participating countries confirmed that the media sector represents a fundamental pillar in countering disinformation campaigns and malicious rumors. This approach aims to highlight the true image of Islamic societies to global public opinion, as well as enhance the media’s role in supporting constructive dialogue between different cultures and consolidating values of peaceful coexistence in societies.
Digital Transformation and Looking to the Future
The attendees called for the necessity of making maximum use of modern technologies, employing artificial intelligence, and advanced digital platforms to develop media content. This approach comes to keep pace with the rapid transformations in the media sector and enhance the ability of institutions to deliver awareness messages to various social groups, with a specific focus on youth, who constitute the widest audience for digital platforms.
Future Initiatives to Enhance Efficiency
The meetings discussed a group of practical initiatives aimed at producing joint documentaries and programs that express regional issues. The participants also agreed to organize intensive training courses for media professionals to raise institutional efficiency and exchange technical expertise to ensure the delivery of professional content. Representatives of the seven Arab countries expressed their full commitment to supporting joint Islamic media work and unifying efforts to confront international media challenges in a way that serves the interests of the peoples and supports the goals of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
