Paris, France — French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France will supply Ukraine with new interceptor missiles, continuing military support to strengthen Kyiv’s capacity to counter ongoing Russian aerial strikes.
The decision comes as Ukrainian infrastructure faces intensified missile and drone bombardments, placing air defense capabilities at the top of Kyiv’s operational priorities.
Expanding Joint Defense Production and Military Capabilities
Macron previously outlined plans to broaden defense cooperation with Ukraine, including provisions allowing the localized production of French interceptor missiles and other ammunition within Ukrainian territory.
The initiative aims to enhance the Ukrainian military’s ability to intercept aerial threats and secure vital assets. Bilateral plans also encompass joint development of precision-guided munitions, defensive missile systems, fighter jet deliveries, and advanced warfare hardware.
Sustained European Support for Ukrainian Air Defense
The French announcement coincides with ongoing European deliberations regarding increased military aid packages for Ukraine, responding to Kyiv’s urgent calls for additional air defense interceptors.
Paris reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Ukraine, emphasizing that air defense systems remain a central component of Western military assistance amid escalating regional conflict.
